High Hopes Montessori Pre School is a small, privately owned nursery school catering for children between the ages of two and a half and six years.  The school is based on Montessori principles originally pioneered by Dr Maria Montessori, (1870-1952) an Italian educator.

The school is affiliated to SAMA.   The South African Montessori Association Trust. We are situated in Clubview, Centurion, on a beautiful, old, peaceful property with exquisite views across the Zwartkop Golf course.

“Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.”  Dr Maria Montessori.

“It is not enough for the teacher to restrict herself to loving and understanding the child; she must first love and understand the universe.”

Dr Maria Montessori.

What we require and what is expected:

The school is selective when receiving applications. The learning cycle that is offered takes three or four years.   We need to know that the parent is dedicated to completing the cycle catering for the three to six year old child.

We want parents to follow through at home and apply the same principles and values that are taught at the school.  The group is treasured and maintaining the positive, peaceful atmosphere in the school is of the utmost importance.  Parents must do their utmost to attend the various talks, workshops and demonstrations.

Montessori only works if there is both input at school and at home.

PLEASE NOTE:  Children must be fully potty trained before enrolment.

Please read carefully: The Montessori Parent.  Is it for you?

High Hopes is privately owned and managed by Louise Stoutjesdyk.  Louise originally trained in Graphic Design and worked for many years in the Textile design industry.

During the mid- nineteen eighties, when her own daughter attended a local Montessori preschool, Louise found the philosophy very appealing and started studying through the St. Nicholas Training Centre for the Montessori Method in London.  She qualified as a directress in the Birth to Six year category.  In later years she also lectured and examined for a local Montessori training institution.

High Hopes opened in the winter of 1989.  Three little three years olds came three mornings per week.  The following year further alterations and extensions were made to the school buildings.  More little three year olds were enrolled and the school now operated five mornings per week. During the next three years the school was fully equipped and the first pupils left to start Grade One at various primary schools in Pretoria / Tshwane.  Those first pupils wrote matric in 2004!

In 2005 it was decided to enlarge the school and existing buildings on the property were converted and upgraded.  By 2006 the upgrades were complete and the new areas were utilized and the school could increase its numbers.  In 2011 further upgrades were done and the school gained a beautiful art area and music room.

“All our handling of the child will bear fruit, not only at the moment, but in the adult they are destined to become”

Dr Maria Montessori

A message from the owner and principal:

Sometimes I think back to that day in 1985 when I entered a Montessori environment for the first time and I ask myself what it was that attracted me to this amazing method of working with young children.    Was it the beautiful equipment?  Was it the fact that four year old children were reading and doing mathematics?  No, it was none of these things.

What attracted me was the fact that this was a totally ordered, happy, safe and stimulating, child-based environment.

A place where I could see children felt completely at ease, a place that exuded love, peace and tranquillity.  Where quite clearly, children were treated with respect and always came first.

I enrolled my only child, Islay, aged two and a half years at that Montessori school, and from that moment my Montessori journey started and continues to this day.

A journey that is rich with the joy of experience.  This journey has enabled me to touch many lives and have just as many lives touch mine.Should you decide on a Montessori education for your child I guarantee that it will touch your life in a favourable way too.

For you see, Montessori is not just for children.  It is a philosophy that can be applied by adults too.  Its core values are based on principles of love, peace, tolerance and acceptance.  How can one possibly go wrong?

I have built my school’s reputation on the strong foundation of these values.  For I truly believe that if we give these core values to children we equip them to go far in life.
